Key Biscayne’s Tennis Showdown

The Sony Ericsson Open tournament, or the Miami Masters, as it’s known, is a special tennis tournament. It’s the only tennis event apart from the four majors (Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and the US Open) that hosts both the men’s and the women’s tours simultaneously.

It’s also a hard-court tournament that involves draws of 96 men and women respectively, for the singles competition, and 32 teams for each circuit, for the doubles competition, taking 12 days to complete.

This makes it a very popular and grueling event, which some consider the fifth most important in the circuits.

As of Friday, 30 March 2012, the singles draw is as follows: Novak Djokovic meets Juan Monaco – and Rafael Nadal faces Andy Murray in the men’s semifinals, with the final to follow on Sunday.

In the women’s section, Agnieszka Radwanska plays Maria Sharapova for the grand prize on Saturday.

Here are some highlights from the tournament.
