June 23, 2012, marked one hundred years from the birth of Alan Turing. To mark the centenary and honor the man whose work laid the foundations of modern computing, the University of Cambridge made an informative and inspirational short film.
In the video, Dr James Grime takes us from Turing’s precocious mathematical beginnings — he wrote a summary of Einstein’s Theory of Relativity for his mother at age 15 — to his groundbreaking computational research at Cambridge, and from there to his famous work during WWII when he helped crack the Nazi Enigma code.
