A series of excellent points by Jon Sopel, a BBC journalist who was (and is) prepared to keep his cool in the face of indecent, un-presidential behavior, all without surrendering one iota to the malicious nature of Trump’s administration and their atrocious handling of the media.
Say what you will about the media — and we have said a lot over the years, pointing out their tendency to make mountains out of molehills to further their own sociopolitical agendas, shaping public opinion by selectively spinning stories as they please — yet, despite all that, when you dub them a threat, all media collectively except the yellow papers that support you, you’re doing everyone a disservice, to put it mildly.
To put it bluntly, you’re a tumor, malignant and aggressive in ways that will hurt everyone down the line, good as your salvos may feel to the dispossessed people of the world who are falling for your show.
As this showdown takes place, the media, should they choose to keep exercising their capacity to remain critical as hell, warts and all, ought to report on what is happening until public opinion turns around and lifts up its finger and takes down Appresident Trump and all those who believe in his bull-in-a-china-shop approach to governance.
Then we can focus on fixing the world around us, including business as usual, because, like it or not, it does need fixing.
But first the avalanche threatening to bury everyone under its ruin: Trump. One has to first deal with Trump.
