Excess is the amount of time borrowed against your lifetime. What you co-opt on one end you lose on the other, candle burning on both ends, if you will, which, when all is said and done, raises the question of quantity versus quality.
On the one hand, excess may be something to be avoided at all costs in favor of temperance. It leads to a life lived in the quality of restraint and wisdom and plenty of years.
Conversely, excess may be the preferable option, deadly as it may be, as it provides fewer but fuller years, worth every outrageous minute.
It’s all a matter of what qualifies as quality to you.
