‘We chose patriotism over party. We endorsed the Democrat.’
Damn it, I love statements like these.
It refers to Arizona Republic’s unprecedented decision to break tradition and endorse for the first time in its history the Democratic candidate for president.
Awesome stuff! It takes both guts and brains to trade party for common sense.
Of course, there are cases when the patriotic thing to do is break rank and endorse the Republican. Just saying, you know? It goes both ways, or none at all, see?
This, of course, is not one of those times. This is a time for ditching the Republican candidate and endorsing the Democratic one, at least as far the Arizona Republic is concerned, but it’s good to remember that the choice goes both ways, depending on who you’re dealing with. In whichever country you live in and whatever issue you’re dealing with — political, social, industrial, organizational, familial — sometimes you have to step outside your comfort zone, whatever your disposition, and do the hard thing in order to prevent something nasty from happening.
If you have to go against protocol to achieve your goal, so be it.
