By the River Thames I sat and saw the polar caps melt.
Then saw the barriers and levees that would be erected
to protect the city, there, before my very eyes, rising
like fortifications against mass disaster, keeping
the deluge at bay, the people safe, and I wept with joy at the
grandeur of humanity, hailed our great, surviving spirit,
and knelt before it, and bowed, and wept, and wept.
